We are pleased to offer an absolutely stunning original and properly marked rare antique German porcelain RS Prussia treasure. This spectacular 14-piece hand executed antique German porcelain chocolate set is finished in a gorgeous Magnolia floral motif, on the valuable and traditional RS Prussia #463 Sunflower Mold, first introduced in 1910. As RS Prussia collectors know, items produced from the Sunflower Mold are some of the most highly sought after patterns produced by the Schlegelmilch brothers, and a Sunflower chocolate set, including the chocolate pot with lid and six cups and saucers, all in excellent condition, is a find indeed! This antique German porcelain set has the blue RS Germany mark, which means that it was produced at the Tillowitz factory in Silesia, Germany. For an exact item & mold match see Gaston, Series 2, pub. 1992, Page 199, Plate #599, listing this rare set at $700 for the chocolate pot and $125 for each cup and saucer set.
Schlegelmilch porcelain items produced at the Tillowitz factory after 1910 generally bear the R. S. Germany backstamp, owing to a change in trademark designating the country of origin. The International Association of R.S. Prussia Collectors, Inc., considers Tillowitz products made from 1910 to the beginning of WWI to all be genuine R.S. Prussia products. Hence our designation of this lovely antique German porcelain chocolate set as 'R.S. Prussia'.
This antique German porcelain chocolate set features a white background with sage green embellishments. The transfer pattern of white magnolias with soft green and buttercup shading creates a subtle, overall effect. This transfer features the distinctive 'shadow' effects recognizeable as R.S.Prussia. There is hand-gilding on the rope handles of the antique German porcelain pot and saucers, along the rims of the cups and the pot's finial, and the sunflowers along the top of the pot are accented with gilding as well. The final glaze is opalescent, following the trend made so popular by Tiffany's during that time period. Our six cups stand 3-1/4" tall and have a 1-1/2" diameter base, and a 2-1/2" diameter opening at the rim. The six saucers are 4-3/4" in diameter. The antique German porcelain chocolate pot measures a full 10" from its base to the top of its finial, and stands on a lobed base that is 3-3/4" in diameter. Please examine the many photographs that we have provided of this gorgeous antique German porcelain RS Prussia set.
We think you will agree that it is a rare masterpiece!
