The Antiquarians love this gorgeous, antique Japanese porcelain octagonal slope-sided Imperial Nippon vase, which is a masterpiece of hand painting and artful moriage. Bearing the Imperial Nippon blue mark, this antique Japanese porcelain vase features an idyllic village scene amidst trees, a rolling landscape and blue skies. Evidence of free hand painting is seen in the occasional odd drop of gold paint, and in the slight waviness of the linear embellishment running through the midsection of this antique Japanese porcelain vase (see our photographs). Four gilded handles jut out from the square neck and attach to the body of the antique porcelain vase in such a way that the flat planes of the handles seem to extend down the entire body. The base, neck and midsection of this antique Japanese porcelain Imperial Nippon vase have gilding and gold beading, as do the outlines of the trees and the ground. An elaborate cobalt and gold design graces the neck of this antique Imperial Nippon porcelain vase, but the most stunning features of this lovely piece are the gold tree branches that rise up in the foreground of the village scene on one side of the vase, only to disappear into the neck. The combination of matte painting and the extensive gold enamelwork results in a most elegant and uncommon design, both in form and subject matter!
