The boundary between the gold border and ivory background is delineated with an elaborate black linear design that provides an effectie counterpoint to the vibrant colors elseshwhere on the bowl. The backstamp on this lovely bowl is either Pickard Studio's Mark 4 or Mark 5 (they are very similar). Mark 4 was used from 1903 to 1905 at Pickard's carriage barn studio, and Mark 5 was used from 1905 to 1910 at Pickard's Ravenswood Studio. This bowl is in perfect condition, with no nicks, chips , cracks or other significant flaws that would detract from the beauty or functionality of the piece.

Pickard fine china originated in 1893 when Wilder Pickard established the company in Edgerton, Wisconsin. At the turn of the 20th century, Pickard was moved to Chicago where the company specialized in hand painted art pieces and dessert and tea sets. Artists from the famed Art Institute of Chicago and from Europe came to Chicago to decorate one of a kind ceramic pieces. These early pieces are now highly sought after by collectors on the secondary market. This lovely bowl, which dates from 1910 or earlier, is a remarkable artifact from the early phase of Pickard's creative period. This bowl is a wise investment for a Pickard or Limoges collector, and would undoubtedly be cherished by someone who simply loves beautiful things!
