Founded in Rehau, Bavaria, Germany, in 1880, Zeh, Scherzer & Co - Z.S.& Co - is famous for their superior porcelain craftsmanship and artistry. Our splendid antique porcelain, pierced double-handled cabinet / cake serving plate was produced in the "Marseille" series. This antique porcelain line included several different rose patterns such as the design featured on this gorgeous cabinet plate.
Measuring 11" at its widest point, this ZS & Co Bavaria Antique Porcelain Marseille Brown Cabinet Plate With Large Pink Roses is embellished with a 1/4" wide band of gold paint along the rim. The background of this antique porcelain cabinet plate is painted a lovely, lustrous chocolate brown. A vividly detailed bouquet of large pink cabbage roses with delicate petals, and leafy, thorned stems takes center stage.
The back stamp on this antique porcelain serving plate is Zeh, Scherzer & Co's first mark, and dates this beautiful piece to a manufacture date between 1880 and 1918. Zeh, Scherzer & Co - Z.S.& Co - was acquired by Allerthal A.G. in 1991. Porcelain production ceased in 1992.
After 100 years, this antique porcelain cabinet plate is still a wonder to behold! With gentle wear commensurate with its age, there are no chips, nips, scratches or crazing. There is some gold loss to the pierced handles and rim. Notably, the loss merely reveals the brown glazed paint beneath, and not white porcelain. See the pictures below to fully appreciate this exceptional antique porcelain cabinet plate.
